Keep the Main Subject Clear and Hide the Video Background

Keep the main subject’s face and body clear while blurring surrounding people and scenery. In the street sample, keep the full foreground person wearing a hood.

Before you start
This demonstration uses 0:00–0:10 of the Pexels video by Lindy Tang. Open the original video on Pexels, obtain it from the provider and prepare that 10-second excerpt, or use your own short clip for practice.
vlogger-street.mp4 is the demonstration clip’s filename. The provider’s full video is longer; timestamps in this guide begin at 0 seconds in the prepared excerpt.

1. Review the source and main subject
Open the sample, turn Auto Blur off, and move to 0 seconds. Choose the hooded foreground person as the subject to keep. Select the visible body, not only the face, so the rest of the person is not treated as background.
2. Select the whole subject and choose Done
Start the selection on a frame where the person and both hands are visible. In this example, move the playhead to 2 seconds, choose Add in Magic Blur, and click inside the coat.
Add a point on the lowered hand and another on the raised hand to refine the selection. Check the face, body, arms, hands, and visible legs. Use Remove for a nearby pedestrian or background between the arms that has joined the selection. This example uses three Add points on the coat and hands and one Remove point on the nearby pedestrian, then chooses Done.
3. Track the ten-second interval
Select the Magic target and inspect its tracking range on the timeline. This example starts the selection at 2 seconds, so use the + before the start point to include the earlier two seconds. Check that the tracking bar covers the full 0–10 seconds.
Choose Start tracking to open the confirmation dialog. Review the intervals after and before the reference frame, the frame count, and the displayed credits, then start the calculation. Include the earlier interval when selecting from a middle frame so tracking covers the beginning of the video too.
Wait for the tracking calculation to finish and check the Current range tracked notice. This sample contains 250 frames at 25 fps; completion of the calculation still requires a visual review.
4. Set the subject’s individual effect to Original
Select only the main subject’s Magic target in the list. Choose Original in the individual target editor on the right. Leave Background effect Off for now and check that the subject returns to the source appearance.
Individual Original takes precedence over the overall Target effect. Check that no unrelated target is also kept clear.
5. Set Background Blur to intensity 10
Clear the target selection and choose Blur under Background effect. Open the Fine-tune panel below it and set Intensity to its maximum of 10. Use the background intensity control, not the target-effect intensity.
Check that the target list shows Original for the main subject and that pedestrians and the street outside the outline become clearly blurred. If the background stays sharp, recheck the Background Blur control and its own Fine-tune panel.
6. Review the motion and outline
Play all ten seconds. Watch for clipped face, hand, or coat edges and pedestrians joining the subject selection. Pause at turns and overlaps and inspect neighboring frames.
Adding points on the hands does not guarantee that every small fingertip or sleeve edge is preserved. A few small fingertips are still missing from the selection in some moments of this sample, so compare the result with the original and inspect the edges you need to retain.
If a completed Magic target needs a different outline, delete that target and make a new selection with Add and Remove on a paused frame where the subject is clear. Choose Done, track the required interval again, and recheck individual Original and background intensity 10. Add and Remove start a new selection; they do not reopen a completed target’s outline. Resolve missing or failed-to-load tracking results before proceeding.
7. Export a video file if needed
This demonstration covers the workflow through full playback in the editor. If you need a result file, complete the following saving steps separately.
After reviewing full playback in the editor, open Export at the top. Enter a file name and choose MP4, 720p, and Standard quality. If you need another resolution, select an option available to you in the dialog.
Review any displayed credits or plan conditions and start the export. Wait for a completed status. If an error appears, resolve the stated issue before retrying.
8. Download and check the saved file
When processing completes, use Download for that project. After the browser receives the file, open the saved MP4 in a separate player.
Replay the saved video from beginning to end, checking the subject’s face, body, and hands and background blur wherever pedestrians overlap. The editor preview does not replace this check. After another edit, export again and inspect the newly downloaded file.
